South STEAM began back in December. Since then, more than 30 kids have enjoyed the after school program and the number is still growing. February, the month of Love, was full of candy heart activities. On February 4th was Candy Heart Experiment day where students experimented putting candy hearts in different liquids to see which would dissolve it the fastest. The winner was Sprite, to the surprise of us all! February 11th brought another candy heart activity. The students made sling shots with popsicle sticks and rubber bands and went head-to-head to see whose slingshot would work the best. The last STEAM of the month on February 19th was the Newspaper Eiffel Tower Challenge. Students were given 5 pieces of newspaper and tape to create the Eiffel Tower in any form they would like. Some went small and others went very tall! All had a great time. It is safe to say the Eiffel Tower Challenge was the favorite activity of the month. March STEAM activities are gearing up and Ms. Stark cannot wait to see and challenge these kiddos to think outside the box.
